Regine's Story

Regine Jackson, a writer born and raised in Springfield, Massachusetts, has nurtured a passion for storytelling since childhood. Born on February 23rd, 1997, she is the youngest child of the late Reginald Jackson and the second oldest child of Hope Gamble, also of Springfield. Growing up surrounded by books, thanks to her mother’s work as a clerk and page in Springfield’s libraries, Regine developed a deep love for reading, particularly in genres like science fiction, fantasy, horror, graphic novels, and manga.

Regine focuses her writing on short stories within the realms of science fiction, horror, and fantasy, while also exploring prose and poetry that reflect her experiences in the inner city. Currently, she is crafting her first full-length YA urban horror novel and planning a YA dark fantasy/horror trilogy. Drawing from personal encounters with trauma, poverty, inner-city life, and the impact of addiction on communities, Regine aims to amplify her voice through storytelling and inspire more BIPOC women to share their own truths.

Residing in downtown Springfield with her two cats, Poe and Junji, Regine Jackson continues to draw inspiration from her city, located just a short stroll away from its largest public library.

Journey to Writing

Throughout her elementary school years, Jackson read the most books in the entire school for four consecutive years, from third to fifth grade, at Thomas M. Balliet School, and then proceeded to read the most books in the school during sixth grade after transferring to Van Sickle Middle School. This not only introduced her to different subgenres of fiction, but she found various authors and titles she still reads to this day. Some of her favorite childhood authors included Stephen King, Christopher Pike, Neil Gaiman, R.L. Stine, Garth Nix, and Lemony Snicket, among many others. This voracious appetite for escape from her reality would be the eventual start of an interest in putting her own words on paper.

As a teen, Jackson turned more to writing to deal with childhood trauma and abuse, bullying, and varying mental health problems that began to present themselves in adolescence. Her English teachers always encouraged her to continue writing and working on her craft even after leaving their classrooms.
